India AMCA 5th-Gen Fighter Jet Enters Execution Phase

India – [29/5/2025]
India AMCA has officially entered the execution phase. The Indian government has approved the development of this advanced 5th-generation stealth fighter jet. This move marks a historic leap in India’s defense and aerospace capabilities.

India AMCA Project Receives Government Approval

In March 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the India AMCA program. Shortly after, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed the green light. As a result, the project has transitioned from planning to execution.

Why the India AMCA Fighter Matters

The India AMCA is designed to replace aging aircraft like the Mirage 2000 and MiG-29. In addition, it will complement the Rafale and Su-30MKI fleets already in service. This multirole stealth fighter will significantly upgrade India’s air power.

Key features include:

  • Stealth shaping and radar-absorbing materials
  • Supercruise capability for supersonic flight without afterburners
  • AI-based avionics and sensor fusion
  • Electronic warfare systems and internal weapons bays

Development and Manufacturing

The India AMCA is being designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under DRDO. Manufacturing will be handled by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Moreover, more than 200 Indian companies are contributing to the project. These include:

  • Godrej Aerospace – Components
  • Bharat Electronics – Avionics
  • L&T and Data Patterns – Systems integration

Variants of India AMCA

  • AMCA Mk1: Uses GE F414 engines and has 75% indigenous content
  • AMCA Mk2: Will feature a locally developed engine and 85%+ indigenization

India Joins the 5th-Gen Club

With the AMCA, India becomes the fourth country in the world to develop a 5th-generation stealth fighter jet indigenously — following the United States, Russia, and China.

Impact of the India AMCA Program

The India AMCA program is more than just a military upgrade. It boosts innovation in aerospace engineering, AI systems, composite materials, and propulsion technologies. Furthermore, it aligns with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
